William Gerald Gause, age 84, returned to be with the Lord in His Eternal Kingdom. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family Tuesday, November 18, 2025 in his hometown of Marianna, FL.
Gerald was born on August 23, 1941, in Marianna, Florida in his childhood home to William Barkley Gause and Bertie Idel Gause. He spent his early years as the Captain of the Marianna Bulldogs football team and was in the Quarterback Club. He attended the University of Florida where he received his BA in Communications. He met and fell in love with his high school sweetheart and “eternal companion,” Lynda Seay, also of Marianna. They were married on November 22, 1961. He opened his own business, U.S. Mobile Homes in 1968, which is still ran today by his youngest son. Gerald held many titles and positions throughout his life. He was on the Board of directors for People’s First Bank, President of the Realtor’s Association of Jackson County, and was a member of the Jackson County Affordable Housing Committee. He was given the Outstanding Bulldog Award for his contributions to his town and fellow community. Gerald was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served as one of the youngest branch presidents in the State of Florida. He was later called to serve in the Stake Presidency of Dothan, Alabama for 19 years. Brother Gause was well respected among the church and a pillar of the community.
Gerald’s faith, determination, resilience, and love for those in his life radiated from him. He was “Pops” to his children and known as “Pepa” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He poured love and compassion into his family. Gerald was not one to lose his patience or ever judge. He held people to high expectations, but was always the first one there to guide and lead by example. He wasn’t a “talker” but any conversation with him was treasured and made you feel important. He was a great listener. He was a good man.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Gene Gause.
Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lynda Gause; three children, Jan Cook and her husband, Jeff Cook, Jerry Gause, and Lee Gause; grandchildren, Zoeanna Johnson and her husband, Andrew Johnson, Skyler Gause, Taylor Cook, Laura Lee Gause, Jackson Gause, Hayden Gause, and Mary Grace Gause; and two great-grandchildren, Ava Gause and Knox Johnson.
