Shirley Ann Hill Melivn passed away March 15, 2026, at Southern Pines Senior Living in Thomasville, Georgia, with her family present.
On August 21, 1935, Shirley was born to Henry Kelly and Carrie Hill.
Shirley grew up in Jackson County and graduated from Marianna High School in 1953. She always enjoyed working and prided herself on being a diligent and loyal employee who took her job responsibilities very seriously. Her working career began in high school when she worked during her lunch hour at Dorothy’s. After graduation, she worked as a sales clerk at Thrift’s Department Store, then as a teller at First Bank of Marianna. While working there, she met and married James Melvin, her loving husband of 66 years.
After the birth of their daughter, Pam, in 1958, Shirley became the school secretary at F.M. Golson Elementary School. She later transferred to Marianna High School, where she retired.
Shirley and Jim were members of the First United Methodist Church of Marianna.
Surviving is her daughter, Pamela Melvin Bondurant, and husband, Frank; granddaughter, Cianna Pender Hatfield, and husband, Jackson, their children, Josey Anne and Elijah James Hatfield; grandson, William Bryant "Beau" Pender, III, and wife, Erika, their children, Emily Durbin and William Bryant Pender, IV; grandson, Robert Solomon "Rob" Bondurant; and sister-in-law, Patricia Suggs and her husband, Jimmy.
A family graveside service will be Friday, March 20, 2026, at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with Dr. Nathan Atwood officiating and James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
Memorial donations may be made to The First United Methodist Church of Marianna or the charity of one’s choice.
