Sarah Elizabeth Baxter, age 92, of Bascom, Florida, returned to our Lord on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Southeast Medical Center in Dothan, Alabama.
Born on November 9, 1933, to Charlie and Eloise Davis, Sarah was raised in Illinois and carried her faith and love of family with her as she journeyed across the United States. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, and she was truly the strength and backbone of her family.
Sarah’s love for her family was boundless. She delighted in the simple joys of life never hesitating to join a playful water gun fight with her grandchildren or pass on her wisdom through the skills she taught them. She found peace and joy in the great outdoors, often creating new trails in the woods as she walked and reflected. Always ready with a pocket fisherman in her car, she could turn any quiet moment by a stream or pond into a peaceful fishing pause. Creativity flowed from Sarah’s hands in countless ways. She drew, painted, crocheted, knitted, sewed, embroidered, and nurtured a garden that flourished under her care. Her family often joked about the times they had to hide the chainsaw and machetes when she was in a brush clearing mood, or the legendary tales of tractors that somehow ended up parked in trees. She was, as her loved ones fondly remember, a remarkably good shot with her .22 pistol, a testament to her strength and independence. Sarah will forever be remembered as the heart of her family; a loving matriarch whose faith and strength were the foundation of the home she built. Her legacy will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Eloise Davis; her beloved husband, Robert C. Baxter; and her siblings, Ozina Imagene, Dewel, Allen, Lila May, Addie Lue, Zora Louise, Chuck, and Jessie.
She is survived by her four children: Sherrie Davison (Phillip), Debbie Fox (Tracy), Jeff Baxter, and Judy Giglio; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Marylen Sue.
