Ronald Franklin Smith, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, peacefully departed this life on April 22, 2025, at his residence. Born on December 20, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan, Ronald was a man of many talents and a loving spirit, whose presence enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Ronald dedicated his professional life to the sales industry at the Sexauer Company, where he exhibited a strong work ethic and passion for connecting with people. Beyond his career, he served his country honorably as a paratrooper in the US Air Force, a testament to his bravery and commitment.
Family was the cornerstone of Ronald's life. He shared an incredible 48 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Esther Smith. Together, they created a home filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. Ronald took immense pride in his role as a father to his children.
He is survived by one son, Mark Smith (Janet); and three daughters: Joet Redmon, Susette Loson (John II), and Brenda Major. As a doting grandfather, he found joy in the lives of his grandchildren—Andrew Loson, John Loson III (Camille), Elyse Pirrone (Matt), Cathy Yergensen (Kyle), Margurite Wesley (Ryan), Shanna Smith, Aaron Redmon (Esmerelda), Jennifer Redmon, Kate Redmon, Matthew Redmon (Maria), Rachel Ruiz (Peter), and Bethany Redmon—as well as his great-grandchildren: Landon, Michael, Ivey, Caleb, Frankie, Issac, John IV, Emily, Chloe, Olivia, and one more on the way. To Ronald, family was indeed his pride and joy.
Ronald had a unique gift for making any occasion a celebration. His generosity and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on those around him. He was the vice president of the Optimist Club, further illustrating his commitment to making his community a better place.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marguerite Smith; his daughter, Dawn Fowler; and his sister, Carol Abood.
A memorial service in honor of Ronald Franklin Smith will be Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church in Cottondale, Florida.
