Robert E. Hinson, age 76, of Marianna, Florida, transitioned on Monday, June 8, 2026, with his loving wife of 56 years by his side.
Born at Jackson Hospital on July 8, 1949, he graduated from Marianna High School before continuing his education at Chipola Junior College and Florida State University, where he earned his degree in Criminology.
Rob dedicated his professional career to public safety and corrections. He retired from the Florida Department of Corrections in 2001, having served with distinction as a State Probation and Parole Officer, Community Control Officer, and Region One State Training Manager. His commitment to safety extended well beyond his state service; in 1990, he opened the Hinson Gun Shop and Range, where he spent decades dedicating his life to providing vital safety education to people of all ages.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Earline McCroan Hinson; and his eldest brother, Claude Hinson and nephew, Brent Dean.
Rob is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Granger Hinson; his two children, Scarlett Brandi Hinson (Brian Kradel) and Jeff Hinson; his cherished grandsons, Ryder and Colton; and his younger brother, Rudy Hinson (Ella Braxton), sister-in-law, Brenda Granger Dean (Bill). Nephews include Matt, Will and Richard "Brian" Hinson, Ben Dean (Emily Williams) and niece, Kelli Hinson (Aaron Moser); as well as numerous relatives and enduring friends.
Robert’s legacy of service, mentorship, and deep love for his family will be forever remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be at James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel in Marianna on Friday evening 5-7 pm CST. Funeral services will be at 2 pm CST on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Marianna First Presbyterian Church with Revs. John Wamsley and Gino Mayo officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Restoration United Methodist Church in Cottondale.
Pallbearers: Ben Dean, Ethan Dean, Evan Dean, Aaron Franz, Brian Spivey, and Rusty Stone.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marianna First Presbyterian Church.
