James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel Reverend Arthur Douglas "Doug" Carr, age 70, of Ashford , Alabama went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, May 2, in Dothan , AL . Doug was born on March 16, 1943 in Marianna Florida to Reverend Alfred James "A.J." Carr and Ida McCoy Carr in Grand Ridge , FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Alfred James Carr, Jr., William Doyle Carr, and Dallas Alvin Carr; and sister Elouise Robinson. Doug is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Marjorie Burch Carr; sons Richard Carr and wife Susan of Grand Ridge, FL and Michael John Carr and wife Lynn of Malone, FL; daughter Lorie Carr Money and husband Paul of Gordon, AL; five grandsons Caleb and Joshua Carr; Jonathon, Aaron and Luke Money ; one granddaughter Ashley Carr; sisters Mildred Belodeau and husband Larry of Lake Jackson, TX; Geraldine "Skeet" Harris of Jacksonville, FL; Mary Ruth Collins of Marianna, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. From 1966 until 1974, Doug served as a Florida State Trooper during which time he was called into the ministry. He also served as a Gulf County Deputy Sheriff in 1975 and 1976. Doug's ministry began 40 years ago in Crestview , FL. He delivered God's word in various churches in Florida , Tennessee , and Alabama . At the time of his death, he was the pastor of New Harmony Freewill Baptist Church in Grangerburg , AL and Springhill Free Will Baptist Church in Gordon , AL . Services for Doug will be held on Sunday, May 5 at 3:00 p.m. at Maddox Chapel in Marianna , Florida . Reverends Otis Whitehead and John Smith are officiating. Interment will follow at Cypress Community Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. Family will recieve friends Sunday one hour prior to service at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel. Pallbearers are nephews Taff and Bennie Carr of Grand Ridge, FL; Donnie Robinson of Bonifay, FL; friends Steve Hall and Tim Harper of Ashford, AL; and Jim Bob Baxter of Malone, FL. Honorary pallbearers are his five grandsons Caleb and Joshua Carr and Jonathon, Aaron, and Luke Money.
