Peter F. Zimmerle, 80, of Marianna, Florida died Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Jackson Hospital.
Pete was born in Fort Wayne Indiana, graduated Scecina Memorial High School and attended Evansville College in Indiana. He was also a member and affiliate of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. In 1966 he joined the United States Army where he served as a flight engineer in the 330th Transportation Company. While stationed at Fort Rucker in Alabama he met and fell in love with his late wife Janice McDaniel Zimmerle. They married in May 1966 before being deployed in the Vietnam War, during which deployment he received the Air Medal for his combat aerial support of ground operations.
After serving his country, he became employed with Buford Equipment Company later to be known as Thompson Tractor Company as Service & Sales of Heavy Equipment Department. He was a dedicated employee, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed his earlier years participating in the Lions Club and the men’s softball league. After his retirement, he worked at JCARC where he enjoyed working with the clients and driving them around in the gator. Pete loved and was loved by many. He will be missed dearly.
Pete was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Janice Zimmerle of Marianna, FL; father, Thomas P. Zimmerle and mother, Marguerite Huber Zimmerle of Indiana; brother, Joseph Zimmerle Dearborn MI. and sister, Phyllis McGinnis of Marianna, FL.
He is survived by his daughters, Alicia “Leesa” Beasley and Catherine (Cathi) Nix (Ray Pettis); two grandchildren, Jordan Beasley and Cody Beasley; great-granddaughter, Kareena Beasley all from Marianna, FL. A brothers-in-law, Kenny McDaniel (late, Annelle McDaniel), William Bill Himes (late, Sandra McDaniel Himes); nieces, Renee (Jim) Oliver, Denise (Steve) Antonaccii; nephew, James Martin; great nephew, Bryce Martin; niece, Lydia Dawn Tischler (Gabe); great niece, Hana (Nathan) Copeland; nephew, James McDaniel (Lisa); great niece, Lydia (Matt) Baxter; special cousins, Michael and Teri Crews and their family; special friends, Margaret Sullivan and William Smith.
Funeral service will be 2 PM Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Michael Crews officiating. A private interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 1 PM until the time of service.
