Marshall Barrentine

Marshall Barrentine, 75, of Marianna, FL, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

Marshall was born on January 22, 1951, and married his high school sweetheart, Shirlene, in 1969. He proudly volunteered to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army on November 16, 1969. Following Basic Training at Fort Benning, Georgia, he attended Aircraft Mechanic and Repair training at Fort Rucker, Alabama.

On June 2, 1970, Marshall arrived in Vietnam, where he was assigned to F Troop, 8th Cavalry, known by many as the “Blue Ghosts.” Marshall was deeply honored to serve alongside a remarkable group of soldiers, many of whom remained in his thoughts throughout his life. The friendships and bonds formed during his time in Vietnam were among the most meaningful connections he carried with him.

After returning from Vietnam, Marshall was stationed at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia, before serving three years in Germany with the 159th Medical Detachment at Monteith Barracks near Nuremberg. He completed his military service at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, where he was honorably discharged on December 12, 1977.

Upon returning to his hometown of Marianna, Florida, Marshall continued his life of service as a Correctional Officer for the State of Florida. Above all, he was a devoted Christian whose faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life. His love for the Lord guided every aspect of his life, and he sought to share God's love by encouraging others, living with compassion and humility, and serving those around him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R.L. and Lessie Barrentine, and his loving wife of 51 years, Shirlene Barrentine.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael Barrentine (Stephanie) and Jamie Barrentine, all of Marianna, FL; grandchildren, Brooke Burkhalter (Brad) of Newville, AL, Tori Barrentine Joyner of Grand Ridge, FL, Colin Barrentine of Sneads, FL, and Grayson Barrentine of Marianna, FL; great-grandchildren, Corbin Joyner, Asher McConchie, and Tucker Burkhalter; and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved as his own.

Funeral services will be 10 AM Friday, July 31, 2026, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel with Pastor Mike Allen and Hector Mendoza officiating. Burial will follow in Sims Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 9 AM until the time of service at James & Sikes Maddox Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
