Larry B. Whittington was born May 13, 1948, and died, March 15, 2026.
Larry was a Marine and fully believed in the slogan, “Once a Marine, Always a Marine.” Larry went to Vietnam when he was 17 years old for two tours, he got shot three times and he received three Purple Hearts, a National Defense Service medal, a Vietnam Service medal, two Bronze Stars, a Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, a Combat Action medal, a Sharp Shooter Rifle badge, a Sharp shooter pistol badge, a Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, a Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation and a Good Conduct Medal.
Upon returning home, he spent 32 years as a Law Enforcement Officer. He was employed at Dozier School for Boys, Wackenhut Security and retired as the Chief Investigator for Burnetti PA in Lakeland, Florida. In 2014, he moved to Blairsville, GA to his home on top of a mountain, where he fed his deer and raccoons, Michelle, Baby and Big One and remained at “Our Happy Place” until his death.
Larry endured his share of medical problems through the years but they never caused him to question his faith in God. Larry always believed God had him here for a reason, and he lived each day to the fullest.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother, Nell Whittington; father, Harvey Whittington; sister, Pam Taylor; and grandson, Kade Childs.
Larry is survived by his longtime companion, Wendy Jordan; her son, Dustin Jordan, and two grandchildren, Annsley Jordan and Conley Jordan; daughters, Stephanie Enfinger (Kevin), Karen Phillips and Danielle Cox; grandsons, Hunter Whittington, Dakota Peters, Kaleb Childs, Tanner Martin; great grandchildren, Dawson Whittington, Hudson Peters, and Karter Childs; brothers, Butch Whittington, Terry Whittington, Michael Stewart Whittington; and sisters, Sharon Elaine Smith, Shan Russell (Keith), Rhonda May (Wayne), and Teresa Grubb (Kendall); several nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Graveside services will be 10 AM Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Sink Creek Cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
