Gwyn Rhea Damron, 93, of Malone, Florida, died Friday, October 24, 2025, at Jackson Hospital.
He was born December 9, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Rhea and Vera Damron. His childhood and early years were spent in rural, mountainous East Tennessee, where his father was an engineer in the coal industry. He joined the US Air Force in 1947 and served in Korea, Japan, Greenland, and the US. While stationed in Florida, he met and married “the love of his life,” Ann Baxter. He retired from active duty in 1968, after 20 years of proud service to his country.
While in the military and active in his faith, he felt called to the ministry and attended Tennessee Temple University and Seminary in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He obtained his Master of Arts in Theology. He spent many years as a pastor in East Tennessee before returning to Tennessee Temple for further studies and to help in administration. From there, he moved into an administrative position in Hamilton County, Tennessee, before retiring to the family home of his wife Ann, in Malone, Florida.
He had many passions in life. Gwyn always enjoyed model aviation, especially with his son, and in later years became an avid woodturner. He was exposed to traditional music while a youth in Tennessee, and he carried a love for bluegrass and traditional music throughout his life.
Gwyn was always a man of conviction and acted to serve the Lord at every opportunity. He practiced what he preached daily.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rhea and Vera Damron; and brother, John Damron.
Gwyn is survived by his wife, Ann Baxter Damron; son, Clark Damron; and brother, Paul Damron.
