Dwayne Douglas Bentley, a devoted son, father, brother, and friend, was born in Dothan, Alabama, on March 25, 1975, and passed away on September 11, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of service, generosity, and love.
Dwayne proudly served his country for 22 years in the United States Armed Forces — 7 years in the Army and 15 years in the National Guard. His dedication took him on two tours — one in Bosnia and one in Iraq — and he was deployed to Mississippi during Hurricane Katrina to aid in recovery efforts. During his service, he honed his skills in carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and roofing, a passion he continued to pursue after retirement. His strength, courage, and commitment to others defined both his military career and his life beyond it.
Dwayne was the kind of man who could fix just about anything and was always willing to lend a hand to friends, family, and neighbors in need. He loved showing others how to build or repair things themselves so they could pass on that knowledge in turn.
Dwayne’s personality was both helpful and entertaining. He had a sharp sense of dark humor and could always bring laughter to those around him. He also loved hosting guests at his home, taking pride in the fact that he had built it himself.
He found his greatest joy in the outdoors. Whether fishing, swimming, hiking, or camping, Dwayne embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. He also had a deep love for traveling, always eager to experience new places and create lasting memories along the way. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his loved ones.
Dwayne is survived by his mother, Ruby Sims; his children, Leighton Bentley and Amber Bentley; his brothers, Adam and Raymond Bentley; and his sister, Breanna Bentley. He also leaves behind a wide circle of friends who were touched by his kindness, humor, and loyalty.
He will be deeply missed, but his spirit of service, love for adventure, and unwavering devotion to those he cared about will never be forgotten.
Memorialization will be by cremation with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
