Doris Bevlyn “Bev” Baxter, age 81, of Malone, Florida, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Tuesday, February 10, 2026, with her family by her side. She was born on April 3, 1944, to James Robert and Rossie Ham Baxter of Malone. She was a graduate of Malone High School and loved supporting her hometown school and alma mater, the Malone Tigers.
After graduation, Bev worked at Warner Corp., Rhyne Furniture, J.D. Swearingen Equipment Co, Sunland, and retired from Jackson County Public Library. She always enjoyed her job and her co-workers, who became part of her family.
Bev was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Malone. She served in the nursery for many years. She loved children, even though she never had any of her own; she spoiled many of them and could give you advice on how to raise your child. All of her nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, were not left out, and there is a picture to prove it! She was always taking pictures and cherishing them. It wasn’t unusual for her to walk up to you with a handful of printed photos from a recent family gathering or church event.
Reading and quilting were her great hobbies. She never forgot anyone’s birthday, anniversary, or any important date. After her health declined from suffering several strokes, she loved being with her family and going to church, getting calls, and people stopping by. Most of all, Bev loved her God, her family, extended family from Day Care, and the neighbors who were always stopping by to check on her.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother-in-law, John W. McMillan of Sneads.
She is survived by two sisters, Sue McMillan of Malone and Wendy Baxter of Chipley; two brothers, Rodney Baxter and wife, Sam, Charles Ray Baxter, both of Malone; her precious nieces and nephews, Gina Pearce, Vicki Baxter (Mitch), Kelly Baxter (Betsi), Dawn Roland, Keith McMillan (Janine), Chip Baxter (Sheri), Jennifer Baxter, Charleston Baxter, Jeremy Baxter, Seth Baxter, Monica Bolin, Michael Lacy, and her sweet great and great-great nieces and nephews; one aunt, Marie Fears, lots of cousins, and a special friend, Ken Harris, and a lot of extended family who will miss her dearly.
Funeral services will be 10 AM, Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Friendship Baptist Church in Malone with Revs. Nash Wills and Keith McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Logan McMillan, Cody Baxter, Kelly Baxter, Jonas Norman, Bryce Baxter, Robert Rogers, Steven King, Travis Pickels, Kyle Peeler, Wyatt Pickels and Wes Peeler.
The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 PM Friday, February 13, 2026, at the church.
The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice, Andrea, Sha’Meyah, Dee, Dr. Mark Akerson, Dr. John Spence and Chipola Health and Rehab.
