Dallas "Jack" Mercer, 91, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026, in Panama City Beach, Florida, surrounded by his family. Born on April 29, 1934, in Dellwood, Florida, Dallas lived a long and fulfilling life marked by devotion to family and a successful career in telecommunications.
Dallas dedicated 35 years of service to AT&T, where he began his career as a lineman and rose through the ranks to retire as a field engineer. His work took him across the country and allowed him to proudly build a beautiful life for his family.
At the heart of Dallas’s life was his beloved wife of 73 years, Helen Sims Mercer. Dallas would share with anyone he met that marrying Helen was the best decision he ever made. Together, they built a loving life centered around family. No matter where they lived and as long as he was able, they could often be found walking hand in hand.
Dallas will be remembered for his quick wit, generous heart, and sharing his love through laughter. He loved to share stories of his work, his road trips, and especially memories made with his family. He was always ready with a joke or gentle tease, and he appreciated it just as much when others teased him in return. Dallas made sure those he loved knew it well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bunyon and Doris Jordan Mercer; and sisters Virgie Griffen, Romona Daigle, and Martha McGee.
His will be deeply missed by his wife, Helen. His three children, Steven Mercer, David Mercer, and Sabrina Berentsen, will hold close the memories of their devoted father. He cherished his role as a grandfather to seven grandchildren and great-grandfather to thirteen great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his sister, Dale Mercer; brother, Hillman "Buddy" Mercer and his closest friend of over 50 years, Susan Brady.
Funeral services will be 11 AM Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel, 4278 Lafayette St., Marianna, FL, with Rev. Bill Stephens officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.
The family will receive friends from 10:30 until the time of service at James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel.
